Our all-time favorite pulp hero! As kids, we used to listen to cassette tapes of the old Shadow radio drama voiced by Orson Welles. They were decades old but still had a mesmerizing effect. And the Shadow comics by Michael William Kaluta and Howard Chaykin were big inspirations to us. (Pity about the 1994 film.)
Say it together, now: “Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows…” [insert creepy laughter]

Loving Smash! And it’s good to know that I’m not the only nerd to ever track down the Shadow on cassette. The Kaluta stuff was dynamite, but there’s a lot to be said for the Chaykin revamp in the 80s as well; and I hear that there’s a new series coming out, written by Garth Ennis! Sounds good to me.
Thanks, Lefty! Glad you’re reading SMASH.
Nope, you are -far- from the only Shadow cassette-hunting nerd!
Yeah, I’m a big fan of both Kaluta and Chaykin’s work on the Shadow. I wish their books would come back into print!
