Smash

Watch for our all-ages graphic novel Smash, Book One: Trial by Fire, coming fall 2013 from Candlewick Press!

Like many 10-year-old boys, Andrew Ryan is short, lacking in athletic and social skills, and daydreams about being a superhero. Unlike other boys, however, Andrew’s dream actually comes true when he gains super powers and becomes the costumed crimefighter known as Smash!

He’s about to discover how difficult it really is to finish your homework, keep your room clean, and sneak out after curfew while fighting crime…

Co-created by Chris A. Bolton (writer) and Kyle Bolton (artist), Smash is an all-ages comic that aims to put the fun back in superheroes!

Chris A. Bolton has written short fiction, stage plays, sketch comedy, and screenplays. He wrote and directed a web-series called Wage Slaves and had his first professional short story published in Portland Noir (Akashic Press, 2009). He recently finished his first novel and lives in Portland, Oregon.

KYLE A. BOLTON

Kyle Bolton has been drawing since the age of four, although Smash is his first professional comic work. A graduate of the Art Institute of Seattle, he has worked for a variety of game companies creating 2D and 3D animations. Kyle is a true Seattleite, whose daily activity includes a trip to the dog park powered by coffee and imagination. Kyle currently draws and lives in West Seattle with his wife, Jamie, and dogs, Bebe and Zeus. For more of his work, visit kylebolton.com.

The Bolton brothers are represented by Bernadette Baker-Baughman of Victoria Sanders & Associates. Their mother is extremely proud that they’ve learned to get along and create a comic series together.

JAMIE S. BOLTON

Jamie is a designer by trade but a natural project executor. She was born and raised in Manila, Philippines, and earned a Marketing Management degree from the De La Salle University Manila. Not content, she pursued her “artistic side” and studied Multimedia from the Art Institute of Seattle. For the past decade, she’s had a successful career as a UI designer, Design Lead at Microsoft, and ad agency Cole & Weber. She has been part of notable online projects such as MSN games, DLP, 3LCD & Capella University, to name a few. Today, you will find Jamie playing beach volleyball, tinkering around in her garden, and of course, online, in the continuous tasks of making sure the website works properly.
