Jess Boudrie, very talented artist of the webcomic Dax Comics, was one of the winners of our "Smash Saves Halloween" prints. Since Jess and his kids were all fans of Smash, we threw in some extra posters so they could each have one — and Jess was kind enough to send photos. We're truly thrilled that so much of the wall space in Jess and his family's house has been taken up by Smash!
Today's terrific fan art comes to us courtesy of the magic pen of J.P. Keslensky, creator of the webcomic Bug Pudding, which is the closest I've seen to a modern-day "Pogo."
Thanks, J.P., for this great depiction of our ten-year-old superhero!
Despite the not-very-scary style of Smash (well, with some exceptions), Kyle and I are full-on Halloween fanatics! Ever since we were kids, we both light up like jack-o-lanterns as soon as October rears its head and the leaves start to change colors. In honor of our favorite holiday, month, and season, here was Kyle's submission to last year's "31 Days of Halloween" for The Beat comics blog:
Yes, that's Smash protecting Linus from... the Great Pumpkin's minions, perhaps? I can't imagine any creature named the Great Pumpkin has motives that aren't truly sinister.
Kyle's so busy with new and revised artwork for the Candlewick book — drawing like mad to make our December deadline — that I'm not sure he'll have the time or energy for a new picture this year. Still, I'll keep trying to persuade him, and maybe we can have something in time for trick-or-treating.
In the meantime, share your favorite Halloween memories or traditions below — we'd love to hear 'em!
Are you familiar with InkOutbreak? If not, you should be — we have a little banner for it over there to the right, above that Top Webcomics banner.
InkOutbreak is a great site where you can view a TON of webcomics, choose the ones you want to follow, block the ones you don't like, and get your regular fix with no muss, no fuss.
If you need an excuse to check the site out, here's one: Kyle and I answered a Q&A that InkOutbreak is featuring right now! Click here to start reading — and leave a quick comment to let us know if we sound cool or lame.
We admit it, we're fiends for fan art! Today's terrific piece comes to us from the ultra-talented pen of Jason Gurley, writer/illustrator of the gorgeous webcomic Eleanor, the story of a girl who never stopped falling. And speaking of falling, it looks like poor Smash is having some troubles of his own...
Thanks for the great work, Jason!
The Smash fan art just keeps rolling in — and we couldn't be more flattered! This one comes to you courtesy of Scott Twells, the fantastic artist of the comics ZOMpocalypse and HUMAgeddon from Knightwatch Press...
HUGE thanks to Scott for giving Smash the ultimate Minion punch-out!
Here's some more fantastic fan art, this time from Mike Martin, creator of the terrific sci-fi webcomic Far From Home.
While I love Mike's picture, I have to admit we're just a little irritated that Mike spoiled our planned finale of the Smash/Magus conflict. Guess we're going to have to change it now — maybe from an atomic wedgie to a galactic swirly? Anyway, it isn't Mike's fault that he's so prescient, and we love his work regardless. Thanks, Mike!
Some terrific fan art came to us today from Javis Ray, creator of the webcomic Legacy Control (parental guidance suggested, for adult content and language):
