Halloween Flashback: Frankenstein!
'Tis the season for spookiness! And the perfect time to revisit this Frankenstein illustration that Kyle drew a while back--but it's still one of our favorites.
'Tis the season for spookiness! And the perfect time to revisit this Frankenstein illustration that Kyle drew a while back--but it's still one of our favorites.
For his latest Inktober illustration, Kyle pays tribute to the legendary Harry Potter!
Here is Kyle's second Inktober contribution: Black Phillip, the (possibly) haunted goat from the recent horror film The Witch!
It's October again -- and that must mean it's time for Inktober! Each year, artists all across the Internet complete one ink drawing each day and post their work online.
Kyle has participated in past years (see here and here) and loved it. However, as of this writing he has only 30 pages (!!) left to finish drawing of SMASH Book Two!
As exciting as that news is for SMASH fans, it sadly means he doesn't have a lot of time to finish a drawing each day. But we will post as many illustrations as Kyle manages to complete! Starting with the revenge of the Ink Monster.
SMASH Book 2 will have plenty of new villains to hiss at and root against. But it just wouldn't feel right if we didn't invite the biggest, baddest villain of them all to return and make life difficult for our ten-year-old superhero, Smash!
Just a quick update that Chris and Kyle are still hard at work on SMASH Book 2. And it's more than halfway finished! Here is a penciled panel from p. 92.
SMASH writer Chris A. Bolton had a wonderful time visiting with a couple of fifth grade classes from Sweetbriar Elementary School, where he read from SMASH: TRIAL BY FIRE (with the help of his good friend, Levi Buchanan) and answered students' wonderful questions -- including a few he had never heard before!
Chris collaborated with the students to create an original comic strip based on their suggestions. These brilliant kids volunteered awesome ideas for panels and dialogue, then the class voted for their favorites. Being a writer, naturally, Chris struggled a little with the artwork. Check out the zany results below! (Click on the pic for a larger view.)
Special thanks to Lynn Reaney for inviting me, and to the whole staff at Sweetbriar for making me feel so welcome.
SMASH artist Kyle Bolton and his lovely wife, Jamie, are thrilled to welcome their baby, Brooke Antonella Sandejas Bolton, into the world! (And Uncle Chris couldn't be happier.)
We're incredibly honored that our graphic novel, SMASH: TRIAL BY FIRE, is featured in this year's Battle of the Books by the Tacoma, Washington, school district! Click here to find out more about it.
