SMASH Gets a Book Deal!
In her enthusiastic review for the School Library Journal blog, Elizabeth Bird wrote, "If [Smash] follows the lead of such other successful webcomics as Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Jellaby in print form, I will be well pleased." And now, we're doing just that.
We're thrilled to announce that we've signed a deal to have Season One of Smash published by Candlewick Press, the home of such acclaimed children's books as the Judy Moody, Girl Detective series and the novels of Kate DiCamillo (The Tale of Despereaux)!
We want to give our HUGE thanks to Mary Lee Donovan, our editor at Candlewick, who loved and believed in Smash at first glance, and our amazing agent, Bernadette Baker-Baughman of the Baker's Mark Literary Agency, for her tireless support in making our dream a reality.
Kyle and I also owe a gigantic debt to the other half of Team Smash: Sarah Fenton for her fantastic colors, and Jamie Bolton for all of her hard work behind the scenes.
We don't have a publication date yet, but you can bet we'll let you know as soon as we do. And for the time being, you can still read Season One online for free!
Here are some pictures of the signing:
Chris signs the contract in Portland.
Kyle signs in Seattle.
Chris is kind of glowing here.
Kyle's turn to smile!
